About the event
Our next visit is planned to Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary near Alibaug on 25th and 26th January 2020. Resource person will be Dr. Vinaya Ghate (Ex HOD Botany, Agharkar Research Institute, Pune).
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Raigad District, 42 km south of Alibag along the Konkan coast. It was a private hunting forest owned by Nawab of Murud Janjira in pre-independence period. It was declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary by Govt. of Maharashtra on 25th October 1986. Area is 52.73 square km. The terrain is hilly interspersed with rocky plateaus locally called as 'Mal'. There is a mixed deciduous forest along with few semi-evergreen patches along the streams. There are 27 water streams in the area of which 15 are perennial. These streams are locally called as 'Gan'. We will be studying flora in detail. A fair diversity of birds, insects, reptiles can be spotted during the trails. Trails are long and participants are expected to walk for 5-6 hrs on undulated terrain.

All meals are hygienic vegetarian meals.
Accommodation will be in tents on sharing basis (4-6 persons) at the forest campsite. Bedding will be provided by the forest department. The tents have cots. Toilets and bathrooms are in a common area outside the tents. Western commodes is available. Hot water for bathing cannot be provided. Each tent has limited charging points however consistent power supply is not guaranteed. Usually there is no mobile coverage beyond Revdanda.
What to carry: - Dull coloured warm clothes including jacket/ sweater, woolen or fleece cap and hand-gloves if needed. Do not wear bright cololured clothing. - One light blanket. - Torch with spare batteries. Each participant has to carry their own torch.. - Good and comfortable outdoor shoes. Wearing shoes is mandatory outside the campsite. Sandals can be worn only inside the campsite. - Dull coloured full pants and full shirts are compulsory. Wearing shorts for trails will not be allowed. Do not wear bright coloured clothing. - Hat / cap / headgear for sun protection. - Binoculars are compulsory. - Participants can carry their camera. - Field diary, pen and field guide. - Empty tiffin box. - Two water bottles of 1 liter each. - Small dull coloured day sack (20 to 30 L) for trails. - Well packed dry snacks for 2 days. - Personal medicines and toiletries. - Mosquito repellent.
Total cost for the field visit including transport from Cadbury junction and back - Rs. 4000.00 per person
